Urechis Unicinctus lives in mud, sand and burrows. Beside ‘penis fish’ it is also called ‘fat innkeeper worm’ because it creates tunnels where other animals live also.
In Korea Urechis Unicinctus is often eaten raw. However, in China the worm is stir-fried with vegetables. It can be also used as an umami enhancer after drying it and powdering. Shandong cuisine’s one of the most important ingredient is this very worm. It’s used in numerous recipes.
