Chances are hight that you have already seen this giant eyeball on the net. It went viral to shock the whole internet after it shocked not only Gino Covacci, the man who found it on the shore near Fort Lauderdale in Florida, US, but the local scientists as well.
Mr.Covacci's initial reaction was to alert the Florida, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commision about his finding. The eyeball was then transferred to the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida. The scientists were working hard to solve the mystery of an eyeball with a size of a softball.
Scientists studied eyeball's structure and conducted genetic tests from the bone particle that came with it. They came to a conclusion that the eyeball belonged to a swordfish and was possibly discarded with a fishing hook as there were visible cuts around it.
The size of the swordfish could not be determined from the size of its eyeball, however swordfish are known to grow up to 1,400 pounds (635 kg).
