Julian Koepcke was living and studying in Lima. She wanted to become a zoologist. She was 17 years old when she boarded a plane flying from Lima to Iquitos on 24th of December, 1971. However, the plane was hit by a lightening during a thunderstorm. Airplane broke-up in mid-air at the altitude of 3.2 km (10,000 ft); Juliane was sucked out of the plane together with her seat to which she was strapped. She fell to the rainforest canopy that helped her land without any major injuries. She had to walk for 9 days in the jungle to reach a small village. She is the only survivor of the flight.
