6-year-old Catherine Violet Hubbard loved animals so much that, before the Newtown school massacre, she raised money from returnable cans and bottles to buy food for dogs at the pound. She dreamed of building an animal sanctuary of her own. She even designed business cards for an imaginary shelter where she would be a “caretaker.”
Her dream is now on track to become a reality. The state is going to transfer the former psychiatric facility’s 34 acres to a foundation which is currently raising money to build an animal shelter to honor the life of a 6-year-old Catherine who was among 20 first-graders killed in Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012.
